Technology, Innovation and the participation of cosplayers who gave life to known anime characters were part of the official launching of the new Creative Industry programs that the PUCV is opening for the 2025 Admissions period.
The new programs are Digital Animation, Videogame Development and Virtual Simulation, Advertising, Public Administration, Professional Photography, Illustration, Musical Production, Oceanography or Marine Biology, which will become part of the Interdisciplinary Professional Education Program (PIFP, for its name in Spanish), introduced today to the community.
The festive atmosphere at our Central Headquarters Gymnasium was the protagonist of the information event, which also featured an immersive experience test through virtual reality developed at the TIMS Space of our Civil Engineering School, the display of the martial combat robot “Bug”, created at the Electrical Engineering School, a DJ, 360° camera and symphonic popular music performed live by the Belstrings string trio, who included the opening song of the Dragon Ball Z series to set the atmosphere.
Information stands about University Life, Healthy Living, Student Welfare, Learning Support Unit, Virtual Classroom, Undergraduate Promotion, Sports, Inclusion, Environmental Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, International and Pastoral, Social Relations and Sustainability, were part of the Services Fair set at the Centenario Hall, which were an addition to the individual stands of each new program that welcomed students that came to know more about the recent undergraduate offer.
High school students, some high school graduates on sabbatical and current students enrolled in technical education attended the launching event.
ARTICULATION WITH CFTs
The event was also the occasion for the signing of the agreement between the University, the PUCV CFT and the Government CFT of the Valparaíso Region, signed by rector Nelson Vásquez and his peers Benito Barros and Rodrigo Jarufe, respectively. The alliance establishes an agreement of articulation of studies that offers the possibility to graduates of both centers to continue their studies in a related professional program offered by the PIFP.
In this way, students that want to continue their studies from the Government CFT, can do so from their degree in Public Management Higher-Level Technician to Public Administration, and from a Higher-Level Information Systems Technician degree with an emphasis in Cyber security to a Videogame Development and Virtual Simulation degree.
Likewise, in the case of the CFT PUCV students, they will be able to continue from a Higher-Level Technician in Public Administration degree to the professional Public Administration program, and from a Higher-Level Technician in Information Technology with a specialty in Cyber Security to the professional Videogame Development and Virtual Simulation degree.
Rector Nelson Vásquez stated that “the University is deeply committed to the development of the region, as a higher education system we represent an important part of the Gross Regional Income, therefore, we have to imagine the development, the training, the advice and research for the coming years, generating a formative and attractive offer with technology for the Creative Industry”.
Luis Villarroel, director of PIFP, shared that “the University has determined that there are areas that must be covered from the knowledge standpoint, and therefore has thought of the Creative Industry as a different contribution that is developing today and strongly enabling entrepreneurship and innovation. This field includes technology and sustainability to the formative process, is environmentally friendly, and together with employability, allows to produce services or a variety of products”.
Jacqueline Páez, acting Vicerector of Public Relations and Outreach, stated that it is a challenge to “be at the cutting edge of each one of the disciplines and contribute with advanced human capital through professionals that will develop in various careers in the face of new demands. We are very happy to be able to open up to the community”.
COSPLAY CONTEST
Each participant that competed for the award to the best cosplay showed a typical
performance of each character. Among them and through striking garments, songs, dances and performances, Violet Evergarden, Dainsleif, Kamisato Ayaka, Marin Kitagawa, Furina, Adam of Hazbin Hotel and the Bakugo Katsuki Deku Vigilante duo came to life.
After their participation on stage, all attendants decided through virtual voting using a QR code, that the winner was the duo formed by Javiera Peña, a second year Art degree student at the PUCV, and Daniel Beltrán, age 19, who is on sabbatical before starting his college education.
“This is our first time competing as a duo. We have been to events but never to one of this magnitude. This is an achievement to us that strengthens and inspires us to continue to promote a joyful and empathetic community”, noted Daniel, adding that “I love to be sociable and attend cosplayer and anime events. My character seeks that heroes have a good position in society and that it is known how much they sacrifice for the greater good”.
“I really value that the university organized such a fun space. It is a moment where you can show what you do, and it’s nice to connect with other people and make new friends through cosplay”, said Javiera after being awarded first place.
VISITORS
Arturo Contreras is 17 years old and came to the Central Headquarters Gymnasium from San Antonio, to get to know the new programs, since he will finish High School in a few days and take the PAES (College entrance test). In this context, the PUCV is a university that motivates him to begin his higher education studies in March.
“I came to the event to learn more about the new programs, especially Public Administration and Advertising, since they are in the humanities area, which is where I want to work. I also visited the Law School for the second time since I came with my classmates last year”.
His classmate Thais Ramírez, age 19, is also interested in studying a career in the “creative and artistic area, and if the PUCV gives me the opportunity to enroll in Illustration, I have to take advantage of that opportunity because I have been very talented since I was very young”, she stated.
Pilar Verdejo is a last semester student of the Public Management program in the Government CFT in the Valparaíso Region, and she attended the event in the context of the subscribed agreement.
“Having the chance of obtaining a university degree at this great university is amazing, and very important to us”.
