Laboratories School of Mechanical Engineering

Laboratory of Tools Machines

The objective of this laboratory is to provide operational knowledge in terms of techniques and difficulties in the use of machine tools and hand tools. Additionally, students have the possibility of developing in a personal way, the theoretical topics of the Manufacturing Processes subjects.

Its equipment is composed of: 1 Numerical Control Lathe (CNC), 10 Conventional Lathes, 2 Milling Machines, 3 Pedestal Drills, 1 Flat Grinding Machine, 1 Brush and 5 Filing Tools. Additionally, there is a set of 4 working tables with 4 mechanical screws, 16 in total; tracing table, a tool bin with all the implements required by the machines and the corresponding safety elements for the students. In this laboratory, there is also a classroom with Metrology equipment.

Laboratory of Machines, Motors and Refrigeration

The objective is to deepen, through practical exercises, what has been learned in the theoretical subjects of the Thermofluids area. It contains a wide range of internal combustion engines of current and past technology, ignited by spark or compression and others in the process of experimentation.

There is a Pump Test Bank, a small hydroelectric plant with its respective Hydraulic Turbine, combustion engines, fans and a very complete cooling system to carry out all the experiences of a Mechanical Civil Engineer or Mechanical Engineer. In addition, a wind tunnel and a hydrodynamic tunnel were incorporated in this laboratory.

Metallurgy Laboratories

In this laboratory, experiments are carried out regarding fusion, thermal treatments and welding of metallic materials with the aim of evaluating the effects of processing on the structure and properties of these materials.

Its equipment is composed of: three heat treatment furnaces, 1 induction melting furnace, 1 boiler with autoclave, 1 equipment for Jominy test. Laminator and laboratory wire drawing. 3 Mills for mechanical alloy, screens, mixers and dust separators. Mechanical workshop annexed with 2 milling machines, 1 lathe and 1 drill.

Laboratories of Materials resistance

Demonstration and determination of the main mechanical properties of materials. It has Brinell and Rockwell equipment for hardness tests. Additionally, there is a universal testing machine that is used for demonstration purposes; it is possible to observe the phenomena presented by the materials when subjected to traction, compression and / or bending.

The Laboratory also has a Charpy pendulum and a torsion machine. There is also a machine to assess fatigue. Materials Resistance, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics laboratories, which are in the Faculty of Engineering, are available for all the academic units that comprise it.

Metallography laboratory

With the work developed in this laboratory, the theoretical knowledge of metallic materials is complemented with the application of various metallurgical analysis techniques such as metallographic and hardness analysis.

It includes two metallographic microscopes, one of which has a digital camera connected to a computer and a projector, which allows simultaneous microstructural evaluation by groups of students. Additionally, there is a metallographic preparation room (roughing and polishing) and a chemical attack room.

CAD-CAM Laboratory

The aim of this laboratory is to carry out the machining operation through the implementation of computer programs using a CNC lathe and milling machine. Its infrastructure consists of a numerical control room with computers, programmable milling machine and numerical control lathe. CAM systems: Unicam, TopSolid, CADEM.

Laboratory of Electrotecnia and electrical machines

It contributes to complement the theoretical aspects of Electrotechnics and electrical machines. It contains electrical engineering laboratories and electrical machines of the School of Electrical Engineering, which have the necessary elements to fulfill the objectives indicated above.
