Domingo 17 de noviembre de 2024

Around 100 artists filled the stage at the Viña del Mar Municipal Theatre to present the “New chilean song” concert, led by the PUCV Orquesta Andina, the Chamber Choir and the Student Choir of the Music Institute (IMUS), who gathered under the direction of Félix Cárdenas to perform unforgettable works by Violeta Parra, Víctor Jara and Patricio Manns, among other emblematic national musicians.

The voices of the soloists Thaís Olivera and Franz Fonfach offered “Charagua”, “La carta”, “Bandido”, “Gracias a la vida”, “Carnaval”, “Canción con todos”, “Valparaíso”, “Te recuerdo Amanda”, “La Muralla”, “Memento”, “Patria”, and “Chiloé”, adding greater richness to this night dedicated to the greatest figures in music culture, which was open to the whole community free of charge.

Cárdenas, conductor of the concert, stated that the reception of the audience was exceptional since “the connection with the public was spontaneous. I think that in some way this repertoire resounded with them since it is in the DNA of all Chileans”. The IMUS professor also added that this evening was a success thanks to the “collaborative spirit between conductors, musicians and the University, which allows our work to reach out to everyone”.

Bernardo Zamora, director of Cultural and Artistic Relations of our university, stressed that this “New chilean song” event at the Viña del Mar Municipal Theatre was carried out within the context of the closure of the project executed during this past PUCV art season, the 44th version of these artistic cycles.

“Our Orquesta Andina is ending a tour in which they have taken their repertoire to various cities of our region in the context of a project funded by the Ministry of Culture, Art and Heritage. Its execution allows us to integrate a team with outstanding maestros to share a very special repertoire composed by emblematic chilean pieces from renowned authors”, the authority indicated.

THE AUDIENCE

In about 1 hour and 30 minutes of concert, the audience enjoyed the journey through the national history and culture through the works of Luis Advis, Eduardo Salinas, Sergio Ortega, Gustavo Becerra, Eduardo Carrasco, Andrés Márquez and Quilapayún.

Karina Escobar, conductor of the Youth and Children Orchestra from the Valparaíso Region and a Music Institute alumni, mentioned that “the songs were very well selected, because they traveled through various emotions and moments”. The music teacher from the city of La Calera attended the concert with her daughter Emma, age 9, who shared that her favorite part was “when the choir came in. I was impressed by the voices and how the used different tones to sing”.

Gloria Sandoval mentioned that she shared this night with her family and that it was “impressive, because the degree of perfection, detail and the surrounding sound that almost took you to be on stage with the musicians. I loved it”.

It was her 21-year-old daughter who encouraged everyone to attend the Municipal Theatre, since she attends each event that takes place at the venue.

“I always attend cultural events, I am on the lookout for the artists that will come, and I think that it is incredible that they invite the whole city to enjoy this”, she said. Her sister indicated that she was thankful for the invitation. “It was emotionally refreshing to come here, it brought back beautiful feelings and it brought us together as a family”, she explained.

Finally, José Contreras, age 24, expressed that “it’s great that these spaces are used and that the PUCV supports them. Culture that is recovered is history that has to be preserved and this is the way to do it, with live music in events that sound phenomenal. My favorite song was “Te recuerdo Amanda”.
