The PUCV Headquarters was the home to the first Conference for Music and Visual Arts Teachers, organized by the Cultural-Artistic Relations Unit of the University, with the participation of representatives from the Santa Teresa, Capellán Pascal, María Auxiliadora, San Ignacio de Loyola, Seminario San Rafael schools and the Education area of the Valparaíso Diocese.
Bernardo Zamora, director of Cultural-Artistic Relations, presented about the diverse work carried out by our university to relate with different audiences and contribute to an integral, equitable and sustainable development of people, institutions and territories both in our region and in our country.
“We invited teachers from catholic and public schools in Valparaíso. The idea is that they get to know what we do and also their needs, and that they see us as an institution that can contribute to their professional development or their work in the classroom. We seek to build this path together. The goal is to know what they expect from us so we can incorporate these things later in our work program for next year”, he indicated.
ATTENDANTS VALUED THE OPPORTUNITY TO DIALOGUE
On the occasion, a work sesión was developed, with the participation of sociologist Miguel Torres. The attendants highlighted this opportunity for dialogue and exchange of views about the contribution of the PUCV to create new audiences in the region, considering the work of their established groups, such as the Chamber Choir, the Folk Group, the Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Andina.
José Ignacio Latorre, the episcopalian delegate of education from the Valparaiso Diocese was one of the attendants. “It was very interesting that art and music teachers from the Catholic Schools network were able to come together. This is the first time we connect like this. We have worked with the university mostly with religion teachers. A very interesting reflection took place, we were able to talk, so this was a meaningful step we took today”, he added.
Patricio Allende is a music teacher at the María Auxiliadora School, who valued this opportunity for the exchange of views. “It was very interesting. I thought it was a very good chance to get together with music teachers from other schools, to see what the University is doing in terms of promotion, and it opens a space to project new joint work of the schools with the institution. It would be good to resume the educational concerts and that they take place in schools or theaters”, he reflected.
Marta de la Vega is an art teacher at the Santa Teresa High School in Valparaíso. “It was a very enriching experience. We need more opportunities like this to create networks and generate joint programs. It is the first time I attend a university for an event of these characteristics. In the case of Visual Arts, it would be of value to have more internships in museums or cultural mediations. In addition to get to know the artistic connection the PUCV does”, he concluded.
